What’s Up Wednesday- September 2020

Hey everyone! It’s the last Wednesday of the month so I’m linking up with Shay for another edition of What’s Up Wednesday. Every month we answer these questions:

So here we go!

What We’re Eating This Week:

Well, we spent Monday and Tuesday on a road trip, so mostly we ate out. However, I am doing the cooking for the rest of the week and we’ll be having spaghetti with meat sauce tonight, then pot roast tomorrow. I don’t know what I’ll be making the rest of the week. I have yet to plan that far ahead…

What I’m Reminiscing About:

Well, Monday was Cooper’s 9th birthday.  Every birthday I always sort through his baby pictures, so I can post a few on Instagram. Currently I’m reminiscing about this tiny baby:

Oh how I wish I could shrink him back down to this size for a day or two!

What I’m Loving:

Our new house! I love it. It feels good to be getting settled in. Most everything is unpacked and organized. I still have work to do, but it’s getting there.

I also love the area we moved too! There are pretty open spaces, and lots of nature surrounding us, yet we’re right near the big city and all the amenities that provides. My favorite spot near our new house is this beautiful nature preserve. It’s so beautiful to hike the trails through the woods. When we visited last week we even saw deer!

I also love that we’re surrounded by so many restaurants! We’ve tried a handful of places and everywhere has been good. We have really enjoyed going to Lake Hefner and eating there. The view is so pretty, especially at sunset.

What We’ve Been Up To

This month has been a whirlwind of changes! We bought a house, moved halfway across the country, I sold my business, Cooper started 3rd grade, I celebrated my birthday, and we made a trip back to California to celebrate Cooper’s birthday! It might be easier to list what we HAVEN’T been up to 😆

I wrote all about our move to Oklahoma in a previous post you can check out here:

Our Big Move to Oklahoma!

The last few weeks I’ve been busy with unpacking and organizing on between school work with Cooper.

He started 3rd grade the day after our movers arrived with our stuff. So we were doing school work right in the disorganized mess of boxes. No ideal, but I got our office organized pretty quickly. School has gone really smoothly so far. He’s enrolled in an online charter school, and he’s doing great! His school provides us with a learning fund to spend on school supplies- he was super excited to get his very own Chromebook!

I also sold my business this month! For the last 8 years I’ve owned a tanning salon in Orange County, California. I had to train the new owner and say goodbye to my staff the day before we left California. It’s weird to think that I don’t have my business anymore. I’m so used to constantly answering calls from my staff, and constantly thinking about work. I don’t think I’ll miss the stress, but I miss my girls and some of my old clients.

I made sure to take some pictures of the place before I walked out the door for the last time. I had to take some with Cooper- he’s been going to work with me since he was 6 months old. He always loved being there because the clients would always want to talk to him and tell him how cute he is. I know I’ll look back on those memories fondly.

This past weekend we drove all the way back to California! We visited with friends Friday night and had a delicious dinner together. Saturday we got to go to a fun birthday party where we saw all of our friends. Then on Sunday we celebrated Cooper’s birthday with a party at my mom’s house! It was a great day- the kids swam, there was yummy food, we were surrounded by family and friends, and we had so much fun. My brother and my nephews came down from San Francisco too! Needless to say, we had an amazing visit.

What I’m Dreading:

At the moment, nothing. I think I had such a stressful run during the packing, selling my salon, moving, and unpacking that now that it’s over, I feel calm and content…and tired. I’m definitely tired! 😆

What I’m Working On:

I need to get my Halloween decorations out and put up! So that’s on my agenda. Cooper really loves Halloween so we always go all out with our decorations.

I also need to finish unpacking and organizing. Then I need to get our stuff hung up on our walls. I have a lot to do!

What I’m Excited About:

It’s Fall ya’ll!! I can say ya’ll now that I live in Oklahoma, right? I’m excited for cooler weather, leaves changing color, pumpkin patches, Halloween, and all the fun that goes along with it. I’ve loved Fall my whole life and I’ve only experienced it in California…where it’s hot and we don’t even get an actual “fall”. So I’m excited to experience an actual change of season.

What I’m Watching/Reading:

This month I started watching Dead To Me on Netflix. I really like it so far- I’m about 5 episodes in. I haven’t had much time for TV so that’s really it.

Bookwise, this month I read a book called The Bright Side of Going Dark. It’s about a woman who is a social media celebrity with a bunch of followers. She goes through a difficult moment and decides to take a break from her social media persona and everything sort of snowballs from there. It was a good book if you’re looking for something light, and in the chick lit category.

Cooper and I are reading a book called The Secret Zoo. It’s good so far- he’s really liking it. It has a mysterious vibe right from the start, which really captured his interest. We’re about halfway through it.

What I’m Listening To:

Right now I’m listening to Cooper. He’s on the phone with my youngest nephew. They sit together on the phone and play Roblox almost every day.

What I’m Wearing:

Nothing new to report here- I’ve been way to busy to even think about buying clothes. I do want to snag myself a pair of Hunter rain boots soon though! I’ve been wanting a pair for years, but living in California it just seemed like a waste of money. Now I will actually have a use for them!

What I’m Doing This Weekend:

I think I’m going to try to convince my husband to take me on a little day trip to Pawhuska, Oklahoma. I’m obsessed with the Pioneer Woman, and her Mercantile and restaurant are in Pawhuska which isn’t too far away! Hopefully I can make it happen.

What I’m Looking Forward to Next Month:

Halloween and all the fun leading up to it! It’s such a great holiday and my son absolutely loves it. I’m so excited to see that there are Pumpkin Patches and Corn Mazes opening up in the area. I can’t wait for all of the Halloween fun!
